Biography

AukeTellegenAuke Tellegen is Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychology, University of Minnesota. He was a Professor in the department from 1968 to 1999. He received a PhD in personality psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1962 and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical psychology at the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1963. In the Netherlands, he earned a Bachelor of Law at the Free University in Amsterdam in 1949 and a Doctorandus Psychology in 1957 at the University of Amsterdam.

Dr. Tellegen’s fields of specialization are personality psychology, psychological measurement, hypnosis, and behavior genetics. He is co-author of the MMPI-2-RF, MMPI-2, MMPI-A, and MMPI-A-RF tests, and author of the MMPI-2 Restructured Clinical (RC) Scales. He is also the author of the Multidimensional Personality Questionnaire (MPQ), a broadband test of normal personality.  He is an associate editor of the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis and the American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis, and consulting editor of Assessment, Psychological Assessment, Contemporary Hypnosis, and Psychology of Consciousness. Dr. Tellegen received the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis Award for “Best theoretical paper on hypnosis” in 1975; the Bruno Klopfer Distinguished Contribution Award, Society for Personality Assessment in 2000; the Jack Block Award for Distinguished Contributions to Research in Personality Psychology, Society for Personality and Social Psychology, in 2001, the Auke Tellegen Graduate Fellowship in Applied Personality Assessment in 2011; and Distinguished Contributions to Assessment Psychology Award from Section IX, Division 12 (Society of Clinical Psychology), American Psychological Association in 2012.
